Biographical / Historical
The Cooper Union Alumni Association (CUAA) is first mentioned in the 1888 Annual Reports, with its regular members restricted to the graduates of the "Scientific Class." It wasn't until May of 1936 that graduates of all the programs at Cooper held their first united alumni meeting. Alumni News was published in October of the same year. "With the reorganization of alumni activites, a real plan of action can be put into effect," reads its introductory article. "This Alumni News is the first of these activities."
Alumni News ran from 1936 through 1970, and published between four and ten issues a year. In 1952, CUAA also published four issues of The Alumni NewsLetter, "a supplement to, not a substitute for, the Alumni News."
The Cooper Union published the first issue of At Cooper in Summer 1964. Issued to alumni and friends of the school, the goal of At Cooper was stated in its inuagural issue: "The real substance of Cooper Union, the depth of its educational efforts, the fullness of our scholastic life, the greatness that is in the school, the strength of our traditions - to convey these is the aim of this magazine."
At Cooper was published concurrently with Alumni News from 1964 to 1970, when the latter ran its last issue. Today, At Cooper continues to be published by The Cooper Union Office of Communications.
